My wife knew of my love for photography and that I had never stopped shooting the entire duration of our marriage. Every evening while on one of my numerous business trips that I took while in the hotel industry I would go out and shoot photography. It was simply in my blood and was never going to leave.

So to the surprise of my colleagues and all who knew me we gave up the security of a nice salary, retirement plan, etc. and started on this adventure of photography. It was simply the best professional decision I have ever made in my life.

I received a call from my sister in law that her room mate saw some of my landscape photography and wondered if I would be interested in shooting her wedding. I made arrangements to go to Brittany's home so we could discuss details. To this day I still laugh about our first meeting. I had a lot of landscape photography to show them but no wedding material. Her Father looked at me and said, "Well, you are a great photographer...but do you shoot people?" I told them of my story and her Father finally turned to Brittany and said, "Well, it's your wedding and your decision." Brittany looked at her Father and said, "Dad, I really want him....I just feel really good about it."

As I walked out of Brittany's home I thanked her for her confidence and told her I wouldn't let her down. I called my Father in Law Don Atherton and said, "Hey, you want to shoot a wedding with me?" He laughed and said, "No, are you crazy?" I replied, "Come on, it will be fun and I know it will turn out great. Don was a very experienced photography enthusiast as well and I knew he would be a great help. He laughed and said, "Well, if you're crazy enough to do it, I'm crazy enough to do it with you."

My wife saw a flyer for a David Jay workshop at Brooks Institute a month before the wedding. I went to the workshop and had a blast with David. I asked him if I could shoot a wedding with him and shortly thereafter I shot my first wedding! I was nervous but knew it would work out. David was awesome, very gracious, and made me feel at home.....
