The engagement shoot is almost always the very first time you've been shot professionally by a photographer as a couple, and is also the first experience you have with the photographer you've chosen or will choose for your wedding day.

I love doing engagement shoots because it allows me as a photographer to learn the special nuances of the couple, to learn what they like, don't like, and to bring out the beauty and fun in the couple's relationship.

Because of our desire to always do something different I always collaborate with my couples to figure out what they would like their shoot to look like. We take a good 5-10 minutes at the start of the shoot to get the shot of the couple looking straight at the camera....you know, the invitiation shot.

After that we go crazy....do whatever we can to make it an experience that the couple will never forget. Since we've already taken the "standard" shot our couples relax and have an absolute blast. And many times they end up using the crazy shots for their invitations instead!
